With over 40,000 yachts built, Legend is an iconic brand. Find out more about the features and advantages that have made Legends so popular by clicking on the red circles below (but please note features shown will depend on year of build, therefore yachts may not all benefit from the features described).

The B and R Rig
Legendary Distinction
Designed by Lars Bergstrom and Sven Ridder the B&R Rig is currently featured on the entire Legend range. Not often found on yachts for the cruising sailor but comes with very distinct advantages. Wot, no backstay?
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Strength - Used the world over by sailors that race across the oceans of the globe.
Safety - Can withstand gear failures that others wouldn’t due to reverse diagonals.
Efficient - Enables larger mainsail for more aerodynamic shape and cruising performance.
The global racers don’t choose B&R without good reason!
Sail Plan
Legendary Distinction
The B&R Rig enables the rig to carry a large mainsail. In turn, the mainsail provides strong power with a smaller foresail deployed. A slightly different mindset is applied to sailing, but with distinct advantages.
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Easy Handling - The small jib is family friendly without yards of heavy sheet to winch in.
Less Heel, More Speed - With good twist in the large mainsail, there is less tendency to heel, transmitting more power into forward motion.
Balanced Rig - The overall effect of the sail plan is to generate less weather helm and a more balanced experience overall.
A different way of thinking!
Integral Hand Rail
Legendary Distinction
Wherever you walk, on deck or below, your hands will find a hold to grab on to. Many of these are integral to the design, so whilst they won’t interfere with the beauty of the look, they are there for you and the crew
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Safety - In a heavy seaway, those grab holds are essential!
Lee Cloth Anchorage - Should you wish to set up a seaway berth, the internal grab rail provides a solid point to anchor your lee cloth.
Galley Safe - For cooking in choppy seas, the grab rails provide more anchorages for your safety straps.
A wealth of points to keep you where you want to be!
The Traveller Arch
Legendary Innovation
A Legend innovation that has become a ‘trade mark’ feature of the brand. Now partially copied by some others, but they can’t beat the original, with a wealth of experience built up over many years.
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Safety - Places high sheet loads out of harm’s way and protects the crew against boom accidents.
Efficient - The mainsheet load is placed at the same location as the leach loading to reduce the bending load on the boom.
Crew Stability - Provides useful handholds for the crew and the potential to rig a centre line Jack Stay from arch to mast base, to the keep crew on board (not dragging alongside!).
So many important advantages!
Stern Rail Seats
Legendary Innovation
A signature feature of the Legend – ‘The best seats in the house’. Sometimes described by owners as the ‘Gin and Tonic’ seats, and for good reason. A Legend innovation – once experienced, never forgotten.
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Vantage Point - A position from which a good look out can be kept, whilst taking in the surrounding vista.
Space - Provides for extra capacity in the cockpit, whether at sea or for entertaining in harbour.
Exhilaration - Whether high or low, the rush of the water beneath you is exciting.
Lots to see and lots to enjoy!
Reflex Stern
Legendary Innovation
Legends chief designer, Glenn Henderson invented the reflex stern by fortunate accident. Whilst building a boat as a lad he incorrectly set up a jig in error. This formed a horizontal ‘S’ shape at the stern. But curiously, his boat won every race!
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Speed - The longer the waterline, the faster you will go. The reflex stern artificially creates a longer waterline, by forcing water downwards as it leaves the stern, resulting in a faster boat.
Stability and Space -The hard chined hull is an advanced design feature that improves lateral and directional stability. It therefore improves handling, at the same time it provides more headroom and space in the accommodation.
Advantages, but hidden from view!
Internal Grid Structure
Legendary Innovation
The grid structure provides a solid frame to bond the hull with the interior build. As you can see, it adds extra reinforcement to the hull. What you can’t see is that it provides a structure for tanks, pipework and conduits for internal wiring.
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Strength - As well as providing a low profile for the cabin sole and therefore more headroom, the grid provides additional skeleton like strength for a more solid hull.
Stability - The grid adds weight below the waterline. The extra weight and low centre of gravity adds to the stability.
More hidden benefits to increase peace of mind!
Twin Keels (Option)
Legendary Distinction
Very few boat builders today offer twin keels. Even less on larger boats. Legend recognise the benefits that twin keels offer and with today’s technology the myths associated with bilge keels can be a thing of the past

Going Places - Especially those on the UK South and East coasts, you can explore creeks and beaches that others mind find difficult.
Saving Money - Enables routine / quick work to be carried out easily, without a lift out.
Safety - In the unexpected event of grounding, the wait for the tide is more likely to be upright.
Twin keel owners already know these things, but you wouldn’t feel the difference at sea!
Kevlar ™ Reinforced Hull
Legendary Innovation
Kevlar ™ is the material used to make bullet proof vests and military body armour. It’s rated at 5 times stronger than steel. In a Legend, the hull below the waterline and bow are reinforced with Kevlar ™ - Beat that!
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Safety - This feature is all about safety from added strength. The amount of debris in our seas today warrants added protection.
If it has to come into play just once in its life, then it will have done a job that may have saved lives and potential total loss.
Another hidden gem but one we hope will never be needed!
Hollow Bow
Legendary Innovation
Take a look at the bow of a legend and you will see that it is slender, with a ‘hollow’. Designed to cut through the waves, slicing the water apart, casting it aside, to allow the yacht to follow through
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Speed - With this feature the yacht adopts a cutting action, with slamming considerably reduced.
Comfort - The motion of the yacht is less demanding, especially for those prone to Mal de Mar. There is also less spray in the air near the cockpit, since it gets pushed aside.
And that creaming bow wave looks great too!
External Flange Joint
Legendary Distinction
How are the deck and hull joined together? A lot of builders hide the joint inside the boat. Legend proudly creates the joint on the outside of the boat. Why might that be?
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Strength - Glued, screwed, bolted and sealed, then covered with a rubber jointing strip – There isn’t a stronger way!
Protection - Provides a built-in rubbing rail fender. Whilst you would always expect to use fenders, sometimes things happen when you least expect it. There is also a chance you’ll meet a bad parker in a marina, when you aren’t there with the roving fender!
An uninteresting but essential feature with a great benefit!
Modular Internal Build
Legendary Distinction
Only the finest hand finished materials are used on the interior build. Focus is on quality and strength for longevity. The design is intended for those who want affordability, functionality and comfort
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Strength - The modular design and bonded build using real woods and top quality marine grade ply creates solid strength.
Home Comforts - No slumming it – all your creature comforts are catered for.
Quality - High quality fixtures and kit designed to take the rigours of life at sea.
A great balance between functionality and form!
Forward Compression Post
Legendary Distinction
The B&R rig, with large main and smaller jib, enables the compression post to positioned closer to the bow
What benefits does this bring the Legend sailor? Click the blue rotate icon to compare your answer with oursLegendary Benefits
Space - On some yachts, the compression post falls right in the middle of the saloon or dining table, hampering a clear view of guests. On a Legend the post is forward to open up the whole area, whilst making best use of space.
Safety - With the post closer to the fore cabin, an additional and useful grabbing point becomes within easy reach from more points .
A small point but one to be appreciated!
